I Ching Reading

An I Ching reading offers a way of looking at a question or period of your life through the lens of change.

The I Ching, the ancient Chinese Book of Changes, does not present the future as fixed. Instead, it reflects the forces at work within a situation: what is taking shape, where there may be movement or tension, and how your relationship to those conditions may influence what unfolds.

In this consultation, the oracle is used to explore the next 12 months, offering a different perspective on the themes, movements and possibilities that may be present as you move through the year ahead.

I Ching readings are available in-person in London or online.

What is the I Ching?

The I Ching is an ancient Chinese system of divination and reflection built around 64 hexagrams. Each hexagram is formed from six broken or unbroken lines and represents a particular configuration of change.

At the heart of the I Ching is the understanding that life is continually moving. Circumstances develop, relationships between forces shift, and what is appropriate in one moment may not be appropriate in another. The oracle offers a way of reading that movement rather than trying to hold experience still.

This is what gives an I Ching reading its particular quality. It is not simply asking what will happen? The more useful questions are often about the nature of the situation itself: what is emerging, what may require patience, where action is supported, where restraint may be wiser, and how you might meet the conditions in front of you more consciously.

How an I Ching reading works

Your consultation looks at the coming 12 months through the language and symbolism of the I Ching.

The reading is formed by casting three coins six times, with each cast creating one line of a six-line hexagram. Some lines may be changing, creating a second hexagram and revealing movement within the situation. Together, these form the basis of the reading and the themes we explore during the consultation.

Rather than treating the oracle as a set of fixed predictions, we explore what the reading reveals about the movement within that period. Some themes may feel immediately recognisable; others may offer a perspective you had not previously considered. The value lies not only in what appears in the reading, but in how it changes the way you see the choices, relationships or circumstances around you.

The I Ching can be particularly useful when there is uncertainty. It does not remove that uncertainty by telling you exactly what will happen. Instead, it can bring greater awareness to the qualities of the moment and to the way different possibilities may be developing.

Used in that way, the reading becomes less about knowing the future and more about meeting change with greater clarity.

Practical information

Length: approximately 60 minutes
Available: in-person in London or online
Price: £75

The reading is centred on a casting for the next 12 months. We will interpret the primary hexagram, any changing lines and, where present, the resulting hexagram, exploring the qualities and movement they reveal and the guidance the I Ching offers in relation to them.

Rather than providing a fixed prediction of the year ahead, the reading offers a perspective to carry with you: something that can inform how you meet what arises and that you may find yourself returning to as the year unfolds.
